Gibson ES125 - 1954 SOLD

Excellent condition ES125 from right in the middle of the 50's. The usual fine cracking in the lacquer finish and a few (very) small chips that don't go as far as the wood. Great sounding guitar with the usual P90 mellowness. This is a great guitar. Eric Clapton loved this model guitar as stated in the blurb for his Crossroads Guitar auction - where his went for $36,800.

Dimensions: 16 1/4 inch (W) by 20 1/8 inch (L) by 3 3/8 inch (D). Laminated Maple top, a laminated maple arched back, single binding on top and bottom edges, unbound f-holes, 19 fret (changed to 20 frets in mid-1955) unbound rosewood fingerboard, 24 3/4 inch scale length, one-piece mahogany neck, unbound peghead with silkscreened Gibson logo, unbound shell-like pickguard, rosewood bridge with pre-set compensating saddle, nickel trapeze tailpiece with raised diamond on the cross-bar, strip tuners. Single black covered p90 pickup in the neck position.

This variation of the ES125 model was manufactured from 1950 through to 1969. It is, now, one the few "affordable" 1950's Gibson hollow body guitars left. It was a budget model back then but was manufactured to the rigorous Gibson standard that was applied to all their models - which started to change in the late 1960's. This guitar is a part of music history that will not be repeated and good quality ES125's are getting harder to find at any price (I know because I'm always looking). The guitar is all original, even the tuners.

I bought this one with a crappy, cheap, cardboard case (it is amazing it survived the trip completely undamaged). However, I will purchase a new HSC before shipping (which would delay matters a bit) that I have been quoted $140 for. The $140 must be added to the price of the guitar. I will not ship the guitar in the case that it came in - it is too risky. If you pickup or I deliver (southern parts of Melbourne only) then you can have it without the new case added. This guitar has had a recent Jim Cargill setup.
